In the area of Thessalian Agrafa was the municipal unit of Menelaida, with its headquarters in Kedros, a total of 2,701 residents and an area of 169,840 acres. With the implementation of the Kallikratis Program, the original Municipality of Sofades was expanded, incorporating the areas of Arni, Menelaida, Rentina and Tamasi. Within close proximity to our guesthouse you will find: Lake Plastiras: Just a 45-minute drive from the village and heading northwest, visitors will find the beautiful Lake Plastiras, one of the most popular natural destinations in Greece. The lake was created in 1959, with the construction of the dam on the Tavropos (or Megdova) River. The idea belonged to the general and politician Nikolaos Plastiras, who envisioned the creation of a project of vital importance for the irrigation and water supply of the area. It contains 400 million cubic meters of water, has a maximum length of 12 km, a maximum width of 4 km, its total surface area is 24 sq. km, while its maximum depth is around 60 m and its maximum altitude is 750 meters. Surrounded by dense forests and picturesque villages, the lake offers unique activities, such as hiking, cycling, canoeing and boating, making it a destination for nature lovers and adventurous travelers. Lake Smokovo: Just a 20-minute drive southeast, and on the border of the Prefectures of Karditsa and Fthiotida, lies the artificial Lake Smokovo. The lake was created by the construction of a magnificent rock-cut dam, 460 m long and 104 m high, which blocks the waters of the Onochon River. The area around the lake is famous for its thermal baths, which attract visitors who wish to enjoy the therapeutic properties of the hot springs.
